Contemporary dance classes are a great way to exercise. It’s all about expressing one’s self through powerful and emotional routines. This style of dance allows you to translate meaning through movement and really allows you to interpret the music.
Contemporary dance was developed in the early 20th century as a reaction against the formalised and rigid techniques of ballet. This style of dance often involves a great deal of playing with balance, floorwork, fall and recovery, and improvisation.
Our Contemporary classes for mixed level cover a range of techniques, including Cunningham, Graham, and Release, making for exciting and varied courses, which develop alignment, co-ordination, use of weight and musicality, to encourage freedom of movement.
Character class is the stylized representation of a traditional folk, national and historical dance, mostly from European countries. It uses movements and music which have been adapted for the theatre. Character dance is integral to much of the classical ballet repertoire. Character dances are usually performed in character shoes (with a suede sole and a small heel) and black character skirt.
