Attendance to this class is by invitation only and is designed for those students seriously considering a professional ballet career.
Students may audition from the age of 11 and will be assessed for their suitability for our rigorous training programme.
Our vocational students must commit to six days a week training programme, equating to a minimum of 12 hours training a week including classical training, rehearsals and audition classes.
Classes are intentionally kept small to allow for lots of personal attention, ensuring each student achieves their true potential.
Students study the Vaganova technique at the barre with an increase in centre work together with classical variations and pointe work.
Our vocational class benefits from the regular visits of professional dancers who give feedback and answer questions from our students. We also organise regular visits to performances and rehearsals, giving students a real insight into the work of a professional ballet company.
In our Vocational Class our teachers follow the Vaganova method, which is a ballet technique and training system devised by the Russian dancer and pedagogue Agrippina Vaganova (1879–1951).
It fuses elements of traditional French style from the romantic era with the athleticism and virtuosity of Italian technique.
The training system is designed to involve the whole body in every movement, with equal attention paid to the upper body, legs and feet.
Vaganova believed that this approach increases consciousness of the body, thus creating a harmony of movement and greater expressive range.
Vocational class based for professional students who want, and have the ability, to become professional ballet dancers.
They follow the programme of the full time ballet schools. Vaganova Method runs 6 days a week, for up to 20 hours a week. Students are required to attend no less than six ballet classes per week.
